He tells people not to fight for slavery but for freedom so I doubt he means for people not to be soldiers, however in an ideal world there would be no need for soldiers. This clip is from his film the great dictator and was shot prior to america and britains involvement in world war two, at the time his visa was booked by america due to this film and in the uk it was censored due to a anglo/germanic agreement not to show anti nazi propagander

This video has 7744767 Views and only 146.038 Likes? If you agree with the video, wish for a better world and want it to change... you could at least show others by using the 5 more seconds necessary to click that beautiful shiny candy-like button! To think that such a speech exits in this world for so long and yet nothing changes is sad! It would only be one click but it shows that you've had enough of inequality, egoism, intolerance, etc. FROM NOW ON EVERY VIEW = ONE LIKE! (PS: Music ruins it)

Modern day america is identical to nazi germanyy, in that it is anexing much of the middle east just as germany did with austria and cheqslavacia, it has camps to detain people without trial, people it calls terrorist for fighting a invasion while calling any american who disagrees unpatriotic

I agree, greatest speech ever. How ironic the greatest SILENT film star made it. Or maybe its not ironic, Chaplin is the only true genius in film history.

What an enlightened speech! Isn't a travesty that nothing much has changed since Chaplin spoke those wise words? The 1% figured out long ago that slave labor was the means to gain more wealth and power. This method has carried on to this day by the use of a divide and conquer strategy and are willingness to participate in a system that can only lead to more and more exploitation of mankind. The admonishment against blindly following the slave masters seems key to breaking the chains bondage.

I agree. So do you, so do we all. The fact, then, that the world remains cruel is logically perplexing. If we are all so humanitarian, why then is the world unforgiving? Perhaps we like to say the right thing, care about humanity to feel saintly but - when the time comes for action, I am forced to believe that we care only for ourselves: veiled and somehow justified in the meaningless phrase of 'human nature'

Cathain78 Says:
It's started off good when detailing the things wrong with the world, but by the end his beliefs about what would bring us benefit veered into the abyss. Science and reason will bring us happiness? He already told us that machinery thinking has left us cold, and what we need is more feeling and to be more human. It's almost as if two different people wrote the start and the end of that speech.

Most wise. The search for truth is like a mirror; stare too long into the void and it will consume you. Yet, no sacrifice no glory.
