I hate sounding like an idiot, but can someone explain the significance of him saying "smile" to her? I get this is symbolic of the end of the "silent era" but people go on and on about how amazing this scene is and I just don't understand why him saying one word to her captures the hearts of so many people?

because a lot of the time no one cares for work that could be so easily duplicated. if someone comes along like charlie chaplin and they make some good flicks then, yeah they're good, but it's not like we worry that the next one won't be or the one after that. but after theyre gone there is no way to duplicate his work exactly. i hope that makes sense.

Im 15 righy now but i know who Charlie is becausr of Michael Jackson . He really admired Charlie and taught me about him. And thats what made me realise that Charlie has changed alot in this world ! Not only in the film industry but in everything !! If it wasn't for him things would probably still be so different.. Just like if it wasnt for Michael! Pffff we neef these kinda people in this world
