No doubt Yesudas is a genius and greatly talented Singer. It is a nice thing to give him the respect he deserves. I am not trying to divert here. I love music passionately. But providing him a special chair intentionally in order to show or highlight that Chitra and Jayachandran have to be a step lower depicts the sad state of deep rooted class conscious nature of our culture. I hope one day this will change.

As a big of Dasettan's Hindi numbers, I would love to add that he made his debue in Hindi songs in the 70s when Kishore-Rafi-Mukesh were ruling Hindi film songs like 3 unbeatable kings. It was very difficult for any outsider to make an entry into this world of the 3 kings. On top of it, Dasettan had accent problems. In spite of everything, he overcame the challenges and delivered hits after hits in Hindi. His song, Tujhe Dekhkar Jagwaalon par is a tune that moves me big even today.

i have seen al the episodes of yesudas in ISS til now..the three previous idea star singer winners kalpana ,najim and vivek hav already sung in front of yesudas..i hope you all should hav heard all those perfomances..kalpana sung "Harimuralieravam",Najim sung a Tamil song and vivek sung "sabarimalayil"..when analysing these three it is crystal clear that vivek's singing was far better than the other two..but still yesudas didnt tell even a single word to them except vivek...was it deliberate???

When I used to walk to school in my village in Kerala,every day,I enjoyed listening to Dasettans voice from house to house as a continuos stream of music. Years gone by, I live in America, drive to office, still listen to Dasettan's golden voice every day in car's speakers. There are many days, I would not want to leave the car until the song is finished. I care less about Micheal Jackson. Dasettans voice keeps malayalees, whereever they are, closer to home and together. A big inspiration....Thx

KJY must be careful of what he says in public. But my concern is really about issues related not to music. With music we dont have a choice - he is amongst the best india has produced. and therefore we can lend him our ears, when he talks about "Ezhu swarangal". But not so with other subjects. There I have great reservations listening to him.

@johnabrahambollywood I agree to some extent what you say: It does appear that KJY is not consistent in his public statements 1) He was critical of all musical reality shows as I heard form before, but now he has been eloquent in his praise of contestants especially Kalpana of ISS 5 2) In an interview on Indiavision "mukhmukham" he started off by bad-mouthing the western cultural impact on kerala's film music and then got a bit stumped when the interviewer remarked "you live in the US".

@sarathpbllm njanum oru sadharanakkaran thanne. vivekanandanu oru nalla advice koduthathil nighallude okke olla mano vishamam enthanennu enikku pidi kittunnilla. athe samayam sharat enthu asabyavum vilichu panjal ningallu oru kozhappavum ella thanum. how about this: vivek was lucky enough to get some advice from dassettan, the legend of indian music. and thats all about this.
